Kansas City Mavericks News Release
FORT WAYNE, IN (March 22, 2015) - The Missouri Mavericks held the Fort Wayne Komets to a tight contest through to the final minutes of regulation before an empty Mavs net gave the Komets the opportunity to jump ahead of the visiting Mavericks 4-1 in their second matchup of the weekend.
The Mavericks and Komets battled through the first forty minutes of the game with no score and shots on goal tied up at twenty-three. Fort Wayne was first to make a mark on the scoreboard with a power-play goal from Matt Lowry only a minute and thirty seconds into the final frame. Christian Ouellet and Matthew Pistilli were credited with the assists on the opening goal.
Mike Embach doubled the Komets lead at 3:41 of the third period, with a lone assist from Matt Krug.
Missouri cut into the Fort Wayne lead midway through the frame at 11:49 when Mavs leading goal-scorer, Andrew Courtney, scored his twenty-ninth goal of the season, assisted by Chris Owens and Sebastien Thinel, on the power-play.
The Mavs stayed within one goal of the Komets until the final minutes of play, when handed a crucial power-play opportunity that would give them a man-advantage through to the end of regulation. Missouri pulled net minder, Mike Clemente, from their goal in favor of a sixth skater for a six-on-four advantage over the Komets. Fort Wayne capitalized on the empty Missouri net and scored twice for a 4-1 lead over the Mavericks before the final buzzer.
