Maulers fall to Frenzy
April 17, 2006 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Montgomery Bears News Release
The Montgomery Maulers lost to the Florida Frenzy 66-33 before approximately 3,000 fans at Garrett Coliseum Saturday night.
One had the feeling that the Maulers were going return to their 2005 winning ways at any moment, down only a touchdown and PAT at the end of the first quarter. Even at the half the Maulers trailed by only 16 points (36-20) not many by indoor football standards. To begin the third quarter the Maulers struck quickly on a 21 yd pass play from JP Holly to Silas Daniels and it was Frenzy 36, Maulers 27. Yes, the Maulers are coming back! But that was about it for the evening. The Frenzy was able to stop the Maulers every effort to mount a scoring drive and had no trouble against a dejected Montgomery defense to continue to rack up the points. It wasn't until JR Richardson returned to the quarterback spot late in the game that the home team was able to score again on a 7 yd pass to Charlie Rollins. The 2005 Division champions are not back yet and it appears they're not even close.
The Florida Frenzy came to Alabama with a good game plan and executed it well making few mistakes. They did not play like a 0 and 3 team. The Maulers will go on the road this week to play at Katy, TX. They won't return home until May 6 when Greensboro, NC comes to town.
