Maulers Extend Win Streak

MONTGOMERY, Ala. –The Montgomery Maulers (6-5) its win streak to three on Saturday night with a 36-16 win over the Lakeland Thunderbolts (4-7).

The Maulers were down 7-10 with five seconds remaining in the second quarter. Quarterback J.R. Richardson threw a five-yard pass to Machion Sanders to put the Maulers up 14-10 at the half. The Maulers never lost the lead after the pass to Sanders.

Richardson had 17 completed passes in 23 attempts for 136 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Richardson had 12 carries for 41 yards.

The Maulers set a franchise record on Saturday night when the defense recorded five interceptions returned for a total of 47 yards.

Also on defense, Archie Smith recorded five solo tackles, one interception and deflected three passes.

The Maulers will be back in action when it travels to Lakeland, Fla., to play against the Thunderbolts again next Saturday, June 11.
