Matt Robertson Returns to the Miracles

October 31, 2013 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Moncton Miracles News Release

The Moncton Miracles have announced that with the release of Canadian Aleks Mitrovic, they will be signing veteran player Matt Robertson for the 2013/2014 season.

Robertson will be joining the team in the role of Player / Coach. His experience with the team and knowledge of the league are a key component in this decision, this being invaluable to the team which is made up of players who are primarily new to the NBL Canada.

Robertson played with the Miracles for the past two seasons, becoming a staple in the Miracles community. His journey with the team has certainly been memorable, with Robertson often being considered a fan favourite. As a Moncton native, Robertson brought a unique element to the Miracles team, and as a local who achieved his dream of playing professional basketball he became a testament to the value of hard-work. This past spring, after Robertson married his longtime girlfriend, Bethany (a Miracles Dancer) he made the decision that it was time for him to pursue the next chapter of his life. This meant retiring from professional basketball to begin a full-time career with Crandall University and enjoy life as a married man. A professional basketball players' life is strikingly different from the life of a married man, and the balance between the two appeared impossible. Miracles players live together, travel together and truly act as a team in nearly every aspect of their daily lives; whereas Robertson looked forward to living with his wife and sharing his life with her.

Robertson attended the October 26th Miracles Preseason game as a member of the Game Night Staff. Team owner, Kim Blanco quickly recognized that Robertson was missing being a part of the team, and approached him with the opportunity to join the Miracles as a Player / Coach. This arrangement will allow him to continue to pursue his career and live with his wife while remaining an essential part of the team, bringing his expertise and in-depth understanding of the NBL Canada to the Miracles. Miracles Basketball is thrilled to have Matt Robertson return to the team for their third season. The Miracles will be playing their Home-Opener this Friday, November 1st at 7PM against the Brampton A's. Tickets are available at the Moncton Coliseum Box Office, or online at www.tickets.moncton.ca.
