Matt Miazga Earns MLS Team of the Week Honors
August 22, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
FC Cincinnati News Release
CINCINNATI - Matt Miazga has been named to the MLS Team of the Week for Week 26, the league announced today.
The 27-year-old center back earned a spot in the league's weekly best XI for his contributions on Saturday against the New York Red Bulls. Miazga scored his second career MLS goal in his second game with FC Cincinnati, following his marquee signing with the Orange and Blue on August 5.
Miazga's goal proved to be vital in FCC's 1-1 draw against his former club at Red Bull Arena. He made 34 appearances with New York from 2013-15, debuting as a Homegrown Player in 2013 at 18 years old.
Miazga became the first FCC center back to score since April 30 at Toronto FC (Ian Murphy), and he became the 18th different player for FCC to have scored a goal and/or an assist in 2022, which extended the club's single season record in the tally.
In addition to his goal on Saturday, Miazga led FC Cincinnati players in duels won (8), aerial duels won (5) and total passes (43).
Miazga's recognition is his first in the league's Team of the Week best XI since the 2015 season (Week 23) with the Red Bulls, part of a year in which he earned four spots in the league's weekly best XI.
FC Cincinnati have earned 18 spots on the league's weekly Team of the Week this season, which extends the most representations for the club in a single season (previous high: 2019, 16). Since FCC joined MLS in 2019, Miazga's recognition is the 55th for the club on the MLS Team of the Week.
