March 9, 2009 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
Waza Flo News Release
The Detroit Waza Flo Pro ended their season in style with a comprehensive 15-7 victory over the St. Louis Illusion.
St. Louis had won the first two meetings and needed a win to give themselves a shot at the playoffs, but Waza took them by storm with defender Steve Bach (two goals) getting the scoring underway four minutes into the match with his first professional goal.
Player coach Dominic Scicluna, scorer of the first ever goal in Detroit Waza Flo Pro history, recorded the team's 100 and 101 goals of the season to give Waza a 5-2 lead late in the second quarter.
St. Louis did get the match to 5-4 early in the third quarter, but Waza fired off the next seven goals effectively ending the match as a contest.
Ryan Mallord, the only Waza player to appear in every match this season, recorded a hat trick.
Derek Garrambone led all scorers with four goals while Adam Nesbitt, Daniel Trosper, and Tom Stark also got in on the act.
Blake Ordell got on the score sheet to take his tally to 15 for the season to top the charts as Waza's leading goal-getter.
"After a rough start to the season we went back to playing simple soccer," co-head coach John Romuayah said after the match. "The players responded and we ended the season on an excellent run."
Waza finished the Inaugural PASL- Pro season with a 7-9 record which is a tremendous improvement from the team's 1-7 start. Detroit made their home at Compuware Arena a fortress going 6-2 including three consecutive wins to end the season.
The two teams will clash once more at a date and time TBD for the semi-finals of the US Arena Open Cup.
