Match Preview: Scorpions at Ft. Lauderdale Strikers
August 29, 2014 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
San Antonio Scorpions News Release
The Scorpions extended their home unbeaten run to seven games and more importantly, re-took sole possession of first place in the NASL Fall Season Standings with last Saturday's 2-1 win over the Atlanta Silverbacks.
The Alamo City boys have also been rather formidable on the road this season as they've taken 19 of a possible 24 points away from Toyota Field. The team record for points accumulated on the road is 20 from the inaugural campaign in 2012, so with a result San Antonio will tie or set a new team record.
Recent acquisition Cesar Elizondo has formed a dynamic partnership with Billy Forbes and Walter Restrepo in the Scorpions' attack. Their speed and ability to take on defenders 1-v-1 is proving to be a challenge for opposing defenses to mark.
Ft. Lauderdale is in the thick of the race for the league's four-team postseason tournament. Seeds #3 and #4 are the two teams with the best records in the NASL Combined Table after the Spring and Fall Season champions. The Strikers are currently fifth, but just one point behind the Carolina RailHawks and the final entry to The Championship.
