San Diego Wave FC News Release
San Diego Wave FC (9-6-3, 30 points) hosts Kansas City Current (6-11-1, 19 points) for Latino Heritage Night at Snapdragon Stadium this Saturday, Sept. 16. Kicking off at 7 p.m. PT, the match will be available to stream live on Paramount+.
The club will kick off Latino Heritage Night on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. with Fiesta Futbolera on the northeast lawn outside of the stadium. More information about the club's activities around Latino Heritage Night can be found here. In addition to a variety of activities and entertainment throughout the night, the club launched La Ola, a limited-edition merchandise for Latino Heritage month. Available online and in-stadium, a portion of the proceeds from the exclusive drop will benefit the Chicano Federation.
San Diego enters Saturday's match following the club's three consecutive wins and currently sitting first in the NWSL standings. The Wave's last match was a 1-0 win over the Houston Dash on Sept. 3, as 18-year-old midfielder Jaedyn Shaw scored her eighth goal of the season. The game-winning goal came in the 57th minute after defender Christen Westphal sent a through ball from the backline to Shaw who fired it from the right side of the six-yard box and into the bottom left corner.
Saturday will mark the fourth overall matchup between San Diego and Kansas City with an even overall series record of 1-1-1. The Wave's last meeting against Kansas City was on May 14, and marked the club's first win over the Current. The 2-0 win on the road at Children Mercy's Park had goals scored by forward Alex Morgan and midfielder Belle Briede, while goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan preserved the clean sheet. Morgan leads the series for both teams with three goals across three matches for San Diego.
