Match Preview: Sacramento Republic FC vs Sonoma County Sol FC

Sacramento Republic FC host Sonoma County Sol FC on Wednesday, May 20 in a second round match of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. PDT. Gates at Bonney Field open at 6:30 p.m. PDT

This will be the first U.S. Open Cup match for Republic FC who advanced to the fourth round in the 2014 tournament. Republic FC defeated the Ventura County Fusion 2-1 in the second round and the Fresno Fuego 6-0 in the third round before falling to the San Jose Earthquakes 2-1.

Republic FC enter the match after two straight USL regular season shutouts. Republic FC defeated Seattle Sounders FC 2 3-0 on May 9, then defeated LA Galaxy II 1-0 on May 17. Republic FC now holds a 202 minute shutout streak, their second longest of the season and their second streak of more than 200 minutes this season.

Republic FC midfielder Rodrigo Lopez, who was named to the USL Team of the Week for the second straight week, has preformed well for Republic FC in the U.S. Open Cup. Lopez scored a goal and recorded three assists in 180 minutes last year.

Republic FC goalkeeper Dominik Jakubek has also been strong in the U.S. Open Cup. Jakubek allowed just three goals last season and recorded a shutout in three appearances. Jakubek also recorded a save on a penalty and the ensuing rebound against the Fresno Fuego on May 28, 2014.

Republic FC captain Justin Braun led the club in scoring in last season's U.S. Open Cup run scoring two goals including the lone Republic FC goal against the Earthquakes.

The Sonoma County Sol enter the match after defeating Burlingame Dragons FC (PDL) 2-1 in extra time on Wednesday May 13. Sol forward Arnaldo Salazar equalized late in the 89th minute and then went ahead on a 97th minute goal by Angel Acevedo. The Sol are undefeated, 6-0-1, in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) this season.

Midfielder Tyler Hurst has led the Sol this season with five league goals. Hurst has spent six of the last seven seasons with Sonoma County. Tyler's brother, Trevor Hurst, leads the club with two assists.

Republic FC defender Mickey Daly will face his brother for the first time on Wednesday. His brother, Chris Daly is a midfielder for the Sol. The Daly brothers have played many years together for many years including a few at the Sol, where they won the 2009 NPSL Championship.
