Orlando City SC News Release
ORLANDO - August 19, 2014 - With the race to the Regular Season Championship heating up, Orlando City SC's (16-2-4, 52 points) upcoming contest against the Charlotte Eagles (8-13-3, 27 points) on Wednesday is a crucial fixture in City's path to the 2014 title. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET at Queens University.
The match will be live-streamed via YouTube.com/CharlotteEaglesSC.
Wednesday's match against Charlotte provides another opportunity for OCSC to gain additional points and extend its lead in the league standings. Over the past four years, Orlando has seen much success against the Eagles with the Lions upholding an imposing 7-0-2 all-time record over the North Carolina-based side.
The Lions maintained their unblemished record in two previous match-ups against the Eagles this season, producing 4-1 and 3-1 victories at ESPN Wide World of Sports (WWOS). However heading into the match on Wednesday, Head Coach Adrian Heath and his squad expect maximum effort from the Eagles, who are fighting for a playoff berth.
"It's always been very difficult to play in Charlotte, and I expect no different on Wednesday night," said Heath. "The next two games could be defining moments in the season for us so it's really important."
City are coming off a resounding 3-1 win over the Harrisburg City Islanders this past weekend at ESPN WWOS. Robbie Derschang put the Islanders ahead early in the match, but a curling free-kick from Midfielder Darwin Cerén kick-started a valiant response from the Lions.
In addition to Cerén's brilliant finish, Kevin Molino notched his 15th goal of the 2014 campaign with a crafty chip, tying the USL PRO single season goal scoring record set by Dom Dwyer and Jose Angulo in 2013. In the waning moments of the game, Cerén added the final blow, securing his first brace in Purple and White.
