
Eagles Host Orlando on Wednesday

Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte Eagles will host the Orlando City Lions on Wednesday, August 20th at 7 pm at Queens Sports Complex. Charlotte (8-13-3, 27 points) sits in a three-way tie for 9th place while Orlando (16-2-4, 52 points) sits atop the USL PRO table three points ahead of the Richmond Kickers.
Charlotte is coming off a 3-1 win over the Rochester Rhinos on Saturday, August 16th which boosted them from 12th to 9th place, one spot out of the final playoff position. Jorge Herrera opened the scoring for the Eagles converting a spot-kick in the 31st minute. Second half substitute Zak Boggs doubled the hosts advantage in the 82nd minute as he slotted home a through ball from Ben Newnam. The Rhinos cut the deficit to one as Onua Obasi got his head on the end of a Johnny Mendoza free-kick. Boggs added his brace and restored the two-goal lead in the 89th minute as he was played in behind the Rhinos defense by Drew Yates.
The late assist from Drew Yates was his 8th of the season. Yates now sits tied for first in the league with Rodrigo Lopez of Sacramento. Herrera scored his 8th goal of the season on Saturday, he now sits in a four-way tie for 7th in the league. Herrera leads the Eagles with 19 points on eight goals and three assists.
The Lions head in to the midweek matchup coming off of a 3-1 against the Harrisburg City Islanders on Saturday, August 16th at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The City Islanders, who handed the Lions their second loss of the season on August 9th, opened the scoring in the 6th minute as Robbie Derschang slipped the ball past Orlando keeper Miguel Gallardo.
The Lions would roar back as a Darwin Ceren 40-yard free kick evaded everyone and evened the score at 1-1. Kevin Molino's 19th minute goal not only gave the Lions the lead but also tied the USL PRO single-season scoring record as it was his 15th goal of the season. Ceren added his brace in the 89th minute and sealed the victory for Orlando.
Charlotte has played Orlando twice this season, falling twice in Orlando by scores of 3-1 and 4-1.
