Match Preview: Detroit Waza Flo Pro v. West Virginia Quantum Force
January 17, 2009 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
Waza Flo News Release
Following a disheartening loss last weekend, the Detroit Waza Flo Pro has a chance to right its ship against the West Virginia Quantum Force Sunday night at 7:00 PM at Compuware Arena.
The match will serve as the back end of a double header with the Detroit Ignition who face off against the Milwaukee Wave at 4:35 P.M.
Even more important however, is that this PASL- Pro match will also double as a US Open Cup match, vastly raising the stakes.
The last time these two teams squared off Waza ran out of West Virginia 11-10 winners in overtime on the back of four goals (including the golden goal) by Blake Ordell. This time around, Tommy Eller looks to continue his fine form, following a hat trick last weekend.
Scotty wright will make his Waza debut. The former University of Detroit Mercy player will already be familiar with his new Waza teammates having played alongside many of them on the Windsor Boarder Stars of the Canadian Professional Soccer League.
Co-coach Dominic Scicluna will also return to the carpet following suspension for the red card he was shown against 1790 Cincinnati on January 3rd.
"I'm excited to be back," Scicluna remarked after training today. "Today was our best training session of the season and we have a great chance to get back into the win column this weekend. We just need to pick up our energy a bit and make the adjustments that we worked on in practice this week."
West Virginia has not faced PASL-Pro opposition since the last meeting with Waza at the Quantum Soccer Center on January 4th. The Quantum Force travels to Detroit with a strong group of players who mainly play for colleges in West Virginia. Colombian native Joan Gallego stars at West Virginia State, while Goran Karanlkoc, Ali Sienta (3 goals and 3 assist in two games), and Ionut Buse all feature for Mid-South conference powerhouse West Virginia Tech.
The Quantum Force may be a bit fatigued heading into Sunday night's match as it will be the team's second game in two days. The Force will play the Waza Flo Pro reserves on Saturday night at 7:00 P.M. at Total Soccer Novi.
