Match Day | Fresno FC vs. Portland Timbers 2

September 22, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Fresno FC News Release

The Foxes take on Portland Timbers 2 for the second and final meeting of the regular season. Fresno FC will look to take the series after capturing a 4-2 win on the road against Timbers 2 back on July 8. Since then, however, Fresno FC has taken a slide into 12th place in the Western Conference table, while Timbers 2 have won four of their last five matches to move into fifth place with 51 points. Led by Foster Langsdorf's 14 goals, Portland has become one of the most productive offenses in the conference with 55 goals scored that's backed by a second-best 18% conversion rate. Fresno continues to put up high numbers on offense as the Foxes are second in the Western Conference with 431 total shots taken, but are making them at an 11.5% clip. Juan Pablo Caffa continues to lead Fresno FC with nine goals and four assists. Fresno will have some return to normalcy as Jemal Johnson made his way back into the lineup last week as a substitute after missing the previous five weeks with a hamstring injury. Johnson has scored eight goals across his 21 starts this season. Defensively, the Foxes will look to remain solid at home, where they have just dropped three of fourteen matches this season.

T2 IN ROAD FORM

With a 2-1 win over Las Vegas Lights FC at Cashman Field on Sept. 16, Portland improved to 7-4-3 on the road this season. Portland is 4-1-1 in its last five road contests dating back to June 9. Seven of T2's 11 shutouts this season have come on the road. Additionally, three of goalkeeper Alex Mangel's five shutouts in 2018 have come on the road.

FOXES IN HOME FORM

Fresno FC is unbeaten in five of its previous six home matches, and the Foxes were unbeaten in five straight before last week's 1-0 loss to Orange County SC. Still, the Foxes have outscored opponents 25 to 13 at Chukchansi Park, and have given up just four goals since June 2nd (720 minutes). Fresno FC has been dealt several close losses all season, with 10 of the club's 11 defeats coming by one-goal margins.

AN ANCHOR BETWEEN THE POSTS

Goalkeeper Kyle Reynish has registered 73 saves in 2018, which ranks tied for fifth in the league. He has also helped the Foxes register six of the club's seven shutouts this season.

HOME STRETCH

Tonight's matchup against T2 is Fresno FC's third-to-final home match, as the Foxes close out their inaugural season with four of their final five matchups at Chukchansi Park. After tonight, Fresno FC heads to Rio Grande Valley FC Toros for its final away match on Saturday, September 29th in southern Texas. The Foxes then finish the 2018 regular season at home, playing host to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Friday, October 5th, and Real Monarchs SLC on Saturday, October 13th.
