Kinston Indians News Release

KINSTON-Longtime Assistant General Manager Shari Massengill has been named the new general manager of the Kinston Indians, the team announced today. Massengill replaces Marty Wheeler, who left December 12th to accept a job with the Nashua Pride of the independent Can-Am League.

"I'm incredibly honored to accept this position and deeply flattered that Cam McRae and North Johnson thought enough of me to offer the job," Massengill said. "I'm looking forward to keeping the K-Tribe as one of the top family attractions in eastern North Carolina."

Massengill is entering her 10th year in professional baseball and has spent all her time with the K-Tribe. She has served as the assistant GM for the past four years and oversaw everything from food and beverage operations to souvenirs and merchandise to group outings. Massengill also took a leading role in designing the new picnic area following the renovation of historic Grainger Stadium in 2002.

"Shari was at the top of our list as soon as we had an opening and we're thrilled that she has accepted," said Johnson, who served as the Kinston GM for 17 years and remains as the team president. "She knows this town and this team better than anyone and was the obvious choice for us."

The Indians begin the 2006 season April 6th at Winston-Salem with the home opener slated for Monday, April 10th against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. For more information, please call the Indians at (252) 527-9111.
