
Mascarenas Takes Over at QB for Wild

As the Wichita Wild prepare for the home opener on Saturday a new signal caller will be under center for the squad. During the 4th quarter of Monday night's loss, Wichita Wild QB Alex Rouse suffered what appears to be a torn ACL and he may be lost for the season. Former McPherson standout Shane Mascarenas (pronounced mask-ar-a-nas) will serve as starting QB on Saturday. Mascarenas left McPherson as the school's all-time leader in TD passes with 71 and passing yards with 7,143.
As a senior he was named KCAC Player of the Year and 1st team All-KCAC QB after leading the Bulldogs to an undefeated regular season. The Peoria, AZ native compiled 3,621 yards and 35 touchdown passes, both are school single season records. His junior season in 2009 was also amongst the best in school history. Mascarenas threw for 3,201 yards and 33 TD s and was named to the All-KCAC second team. The Bulldogs had a combined record of 19-3 in 2009 and 2010 with Mascarenas as QB.
In 2008 Masceranas started the first game of the season for the Bulldogs but was lost for the year with a leg injury. In his lone start he passed for 321 yards and three TD's. Mascarenas played his freshman season at Phoenix College in Arizona.
