Maryland Nighthawks win season opening squeaker in Buffalo

November 4, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Maryland NightHawks News Release

Rockville, MD. Playing in front of a capacity crowd of 3200 excited fans in the Burt Flickinger Center at Erie Community College in Buffalo, NY, the ABA Maryland Nighthawks defeated the Buffalo Rapids 108-107 in the kickoff era of the ABA in Buffalo. It was ABA basketball at its best with the game going down to the last second before the Nighthawks left the floor as winners. The Nighthawks were one of the ABA premiere teams last season - the Rapids showed that they will be a definite contender for the Eastern Division with their inspired play.

Led by ABA All Star Guard Randy "White Chocolate" Gills 35 points and 11 3-pointers, the Nighthawks wiped out an early 17 point deficit and never looked back though the Rapids had a last second opportunity to win but the half court shot at the buzzer failed to go in. Further details of the game will be forthcoming. The Nighthawks continue on the road and will play the Niagara DareDevils Saturday night.
