Southern California Surf News Release

Question from Lloyd K and others: "Is there an All Star Game scheduled for the 2005-2006 season? If so, with all the teams in the league, how will it work?"

Answer: Lloyd and others. Thank you for the questions and the great interest in the All Star Game. Yes, there will be an All Star Game this season. It will be on Sunday, February 12th and will be hosted by the Florida Pit Bulls. We will be providing many details as the season unfolds and All Star Weekend will consist of both sports and entertainment. A gala weekend is planned.

Selecting two All Star teams from a 48 team league is difficult. So, as the ABA usually does, we've come up with a creative and fair way to do it. The teams will be divided into East and West (as usual). On January 20th, coaches of the teams with the best record in the East and West will be named Head Coaches for the All Star teams. The two coaches with the next best records in the East and West will be the Assistant Coaches for the All Star teams. The three coaches on each team will be responsible for picking their All Star teams. There will be 14 All Stars on each team, a total of 28 players. The coaches will determine if a team can have more than one player represented, but the maximum will be 2 from any team.

The All Star team will be announced on February 1st. The ABA All Star Game will be known at the ABA Coaches All Star Game and we will put the responsibility for selecting the team where it should be - in the hands of those who know talent best and who know what it will take to win the All Star Game.

We wish that players from all 48 teams could be represented as the talent in the ABA is awesome. Not possible. However, it is possible that others will be selected from the Slam Dunk Contest, 3-Point Shooting Contest and Ball Handling Contest. Thanks for the questions. If you have a question, please email to joenewman@abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
