August 7, 2002 – Chicago Rush rookie defensive specialist Marvin Taylor was named the Arena Football League's ADT Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Chicago's 60-47 playoff win over Dallas, the AFL announced today.

Taylor recorded eight tackles and four passes defended in Monday's AFL quarterfinal game. His interception of an Andy Kelly pass on Dallas' first drive led to a Rush touchdown and an early 8-0 Chicago lead.

After seeing limited playing time the first half of the season, Taylor was moved to defensive specialist during the first half of Chicago's June 30 game against New York. He intercepted two Aaron Garcia passes and earned the starting job. He finished the season as the team's third leading tackler behind Cedric Walker and Dameon Porter.

With Monday's win the Rush advances to play the Arizona Rattlers Sunday at America West Arena in Phoenix. Kickoff for the AFL semifinals match up is set for 2:30 p.m. central time, with the game televised live on espn2.
