Martin Prado to rehab with M-Braves

PEARL, MS - Atlanta Braves' outfielder/third baseman Martin Prado is scheduled to continue his rehab assignment with the Mississippi Braves Wednesday and Thursday evening at Trustmark Park.

Prado, who hasn't played with Atlanta since June 7, missed a month of action after being placed on the disabled list with a staph infection. He had surgery on June 10 to remove the infection from his right calf but had to wait for the incision to close entirely before receiving clearance to work out.

The former M-Brave began his rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday, July 6, hitting .176 with three walks and a RBI in six games with the G-Braves. While serving as the designated hitter in two games, Prado saw action in both left field and at third base.

At the time of the injury, Prado was batting .277 with 17 doubles, eight home runs, and 33 RBIs in 61 games with the Atlanta Braves. Prado also had a .321 average in 30 games at Turner Field.

As with all injuries and rehab assignments, plans are tentative and could change at the last minute. However, Prado hopes to return to action with the big league club on Friday, July 15-the first game after the All-Star break.

Prado made his Major League debut with the Braves on April 23, 2006, becoming just the seventh M-Brave to receive a promotion directly to Atlanta. Prado was a member of the inaugural Mississippi Braves club in 2005 where he hit .280 in 143 games. He also appeared in 43 games with the Double-A club in 2006, batting .278.

The M-Braves take on the Tennessee Smokies, Double-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, in a six-game series at Trustmark Park July 13-18. Wednesday and Thursday's games are slated for 7:05 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
