Seattle Seawolves News Release
Tukwila, WA - Former England Attack Coach Martin Gleeson joins the Seawolves Rugby Club as Senior Coach, responsible for team attack and the backline unit.
"Our attack has improved progressively over the last two seasons, however I'm excited to see the impact Glees will have on our collective team attack and individual skillsets. I've been impressed with the balance he shows connecting his enthusiasm & creativity, with his eye for detail & the need to do the basics well. It's obvious why world class players he's coached with both England and Wasps think of him so highly. I'm delighted to welcome Glees, his wife Sophie and son Se to the Seawolves family." -Allen "Clarkie" Clarke, Director of Rugby and Head Coach, Seattle Seawolves.
Gleeson arrives with plenty of experience having begun his coaching career at rugby league club Salford following retirement in 2014. Prior to taking on that role, he enjoyed a notable career as a player, receiving international recognition for both Great Britain and England as a center.
Gleeson said about his appointment, "I'm really excited to join Seattle Seawolves and to work with the players, Clarkie, and the whole management team. This is a great opportunity to broaden and enhance my coaching development with Clarkie. I can't wait to get out there, work hard, and add to the way the team plays rugby."
Since its 2018 U.S. debut, Major League Rugby has grown to 13 teams by 2023, drawing international talent and premier coaches, securing media and sponsorship deals, and highlighting the potential of U.S. rugby. With forthcoming World Cups and opportunities for global partnerships, the future is bright.
Adrian Balfour, the Seawolves' chairman, remarked, "The entrance of esteemed foreign coaches into MLR, including the likes of Clarkie and Martin, not only amplifies our league standards but also boosts player development and credibility. Their extensive experience, global connections, and notable reputations fuel fan passion, provide development opportunities for local coaches, and solidify MLR's path to sustained growth and recognition."
Watch Gleeson lead the attack as the Seattle Seawolves hunt for victory in the 2024 season. Season tickets are available.
