Jon Mayer went 2-4 and hit a home run, helping the Marthas Vineyard Sharks (1-0) to a 4-1 victory over the Pittsfield Suns (0-1) on Wednesday at Vineyard Baseball Park.
He singled in the first inning and homered in the seventh inning.
Brian Rapp brought the heat against the Pittsfield Suns during his outing. The Pittsfield Suns managed just one hit off of the the Marthas Vineyard Sharks' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out five during his three innings of work.
Jamin McCann couldn't get it done on the bump for the Pittsfield Suns, taking a loss. He lasted just five innings, walked one, struck out one, and allowed three runs.
