The Marshals News Release
Cincinnati, OH - The Cincinnati Marshals re-wrote franchise history in a big way Saturday night as they cruised to an 82-0 win over the Tennessee Riversharks.
Cincinnati set or tied 10 different franchise records in the win, including most points scored, fewest points allowed and margin of victory.
The 82 points the Marshals put on the board broke the old record of 81, set April 23, 2005 in an 81-74 victory over Dayton. The shutout was the first in franchise history, breaking the mark for fewest points allowed in a game previously set at 13 in a win over New Jersey on April 30, 2005. The 82 point margin of victory shattered the previous record of 52 points against New Jersey last season.
Cincinnati averaged 6.0 yards per carry Saturday night breaking the old mark of 5.2 yards per carry set against River City on April 2, 2005. The Marshals receivers would not be outdone, however, averaging 12.4 yards per catch to break the old record of 11.1 set against New Jersey on April 30, 2005.
The defense also got in on the record breaking action by allowing just 60 passing yards to surpass the previous mark of 79 set against Dayton on April 23, 2005. The Marshals' three sacks tied the franchise record achieved against both New Jersey and Beaumont in 2005 and their four interceptions tied the old mark from games against New Jersey, Dayton and Tri-Cities.
Two individuals also put their name in the record book Saturday night.
Ray Jackson broke the franchise record for yards per carry with 7.6 after gaining 91 yards on 12 carries. Rayshawn Askew held the previous franchise mark averaging 5.5 yards per carry against River City on April 2, 2005. Peni Faitele broke the franchise record for tackles for a loss Saturday night with four. The old record was three, set by Johnell Wyatte against New Jersey last season. In addition, Demetrius Howard tied the record for tackles for a loss with three on Saturday.
Add in Michael Larkin breaking the record for longest kickoff return this season, and the Marshals have tied or set 11 franchise records this year.
Larkin's 53-yard kickoff return Saturday night tied his own record set on April 29 against Palm Beach. The record had been previously held by Rayshawn Askew and Ernie Samuels when they each had a 48-yard return against Dayton last year.
The Marshals have a bye week this week before returning home against Osceola on June 10th at 7:30pm for Youth Football and Cheerleading night.
