Texas Marshals News Release

The Texas Marshals finished the first-half of the Texas Collegiate League season with a 10-5 win over the East Texas Pump Jacks in Kilgore on Wednesday night. Keaton Brewer earned the win in his first start of the season as he allowed five runs on just three hits with two walks and three strikeouts in five innings.

The Marshals got out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Chase Daughdrill hit an RBI single to score James Stroud, Mason Mantle drove in Carson Shaddy on a single, and Carlos Contreras scored on a wild pitch.

The Pump Jacks got a run back in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Dustin Williams to make it 3-1.

Stroud singled, stole second and third, and scored on a wild pitch to manufacture a run and put the Marshals up 4-1 in the top of the second inning.

The Pump Jacks evened the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the second with the help of a sacrifice fly and an error by the Marshals.

Daughdrill recorded his second RBI single of the game in the top of the fourth inning to score Adonis Askew and put the Marshals ahead 5-4.

The Marshals broke the game open with five runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 10-4 lead. After walks to Jace Reese and Mason Mantle, Daniel Rushing laid down a sacrifice bunt that was mishandled by the Pump Jacks defense allowing Reese to score. A bases loaded walk to Carson Shaddy plated Rushing. Contreras added a two-run single to right field to score Askew and Stroud. And Contreras came around to score on an RBI double by Daughdrill.

The Pump Jacks got a run back in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 10-5, but that would end the scoring in the ballgame as both teams were shutout for the final four innings of play.

Collin Sherrod, Ryan Hill, Joseph Herbert, and Jake Smith each threw an inning of scoreless relief for the Marshals.

With the win, the Marshals finish the first-half with a record of 8-19. The Pump Jacks close the first-half with a loss and fall to 9-19.

The Marshals will kick-off the second-half of the TCL season with a four-game home stand beginning on Thursday night as they host the Acadiana Cane Cutters at 7:05pm at Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas.
