The Marshals News Release
Tupelo, MS. - Life out of "The Slammer" (H.O.T. coliseum) once again proved to be tough for the Marshals (1-3, 0-1 in conference) as they fell 61-41 to the Tupelo FireAnts (4-1, 3-1) at the BankcorpSouth Center in Tupelo, Mississippi on Saturday night.
Facing an improvisational FireAnts offense, the Marshals defense looked confused and out of sync as they struggled with assignments and containment. The FireAnts managed to score on 7 of their first 9 possessions.
The Marshals offense managed to move the ball; however turnovers once again proved to be their achilles heel. Quarterback Odell James went 18 of 33 for 197 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions; he also carried the ball 13 times for 61 yards and three touchdowns. Running back John Henry finished the night with 50 yards on 8 carries and a touchdown. Wide-receiver Christopher Allen had his best night in a Marshals uniform catching 5 balls for 70 yards. On special teams, kick returner David Banks continues to shine. He returned 5 kicks for 93 yards.
The Marshals are back in action on Saturday as they ride into Lake Charles, Louisiana for a showdown with the LandSharks. Follow the action live at 7 pm on the Texas Sports Radio Network (www.tsrnsports.com).
The men in black and teal return to "The Slammer" on Saturday, May 1st for a shootout with conference rival Beaumont Drillers. Tickets are still available; to order call (254) 776-1660 or stop by the H.O.T. ticket office.
