(Southaven, MS) --- The first RiverKings' player in four years to be selected a member of the Central Hockey League (CHL) All-Rookie Team will spend year two of his professional career again in a RiverKings' sweater. Mississippi RiverKings' Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin "Killer" Kaminski has announced the addition of defenseman Dane Marshall to the 2009-2010 roster of the CHL's Northeast Division Champions.

The 24-year old Marshall is the first member of the RiverKings to be named to the league's All-Rookie Team since Phil Aucoin was honored at the end of the 2004-05 regular season, the first time rookie players were so recognized.

Kaminski says he looks forward to Marshall's return to the RiverKings. "Marsh is a big signing for us," Kaminski said. "He (Marshall) does it all very quietly. He's a great skater who has great hockey sense and is never out of position. His defensive awareness and his ability to anticipate defensively or offensively are outstanding and he is always accountable."

Marshall says he's happy to back and be a part of the RiverKings' roster after a successful first season in the CHL. "I think we established ourselves as one of the better teams in the league last year and it looks as though Killer wants to bring back a lot of the same guys and make a couple of improvements here and there," Marshall said.

In his first time as a professional hockey player, the 5-foot-10, 185-pound Marshall netted six goals and added nine assists for 15 points, playing in all 64 games of the regular season, adding 36 minutes of penalty time.

Marshall's statistics included two-game point streaks on three occasions during the regular season, including a three-point weekend last December 12th and 13th (goal, 2 assists) against the eventual league champion Texas Brahmas. His six goals included a game-winner last November 25th in the RiverKings' come-from-behind 5-3 victory over the Bucks in Laredo.

During the RiverKings' playoff run last season, the native of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia contributed a pair of assists in 12 appearances, as the RiverKings reached the Northern Conference finals. One of the assists came during the RiverKings' series-clinching victory in game six of the Northern Conference semi-finals at Oklahoma City (a 3-1 victory), while the other came during the RiverKings' 3-1 loss to Colorado in game three of the Northern Conference finals.

Kaminski expects Marshall to play a larger role on the RiverKings' blue line this season. "We expect Marsh to step up after a great rookie season. We want him to log more ice time, more power play time, and just be the same kid that comes to compete and have fun."

For his part, Marshall hopes he can provide another strong season on defense and contribute more on offense. "I think I did a pretty good job in our defensive end moving the puck up to our forwards," Dane said. "I want to keep playing like I was playing in the defensive end and chip in a little more offensively and do a little more on the offensive end."

Dane's amateur hockey background included a four-year career at the University of Southern Maine, where he was a member of the ECAC-East All-Rookie Team, won two all-league second-team selections and one first-team selection. Marshall was also a two-time member of the ECAC-East All-Academic Team and was named to the New England Hockey Writers Association All-New England team in 2007. Marshall's career college statistics included seven goals and 58 assists for 65 points and 132 penalty minutes. His 108 games played is a USM school record.
