Morehead City, N.C- The Morehead City Marlins have announced the release of their 2013 schedule. In 2013, the Marlins will begin their fourth season in Morehead City and the Coastal Plain League. The Marlins open the 2013 season on Tuesday, May 28th on the road, taking on the Fayetteville SwampDogs. The following night, Wednesday May 29th, the Marlins host the Forest City Owls in the home opener at Puck O'Neal Field at Big Rock Stadium.
Highlighting the Marlins 2013 schedule is the return of the U.S. Military All Stars and the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. The Marlins will host the U.S. Military All Stars on Saturday June 8th for the fourth straight year. On Sunday June 23rd, the Marlins will host Team USA, the Collegiate National Team. Last year, the Marlins fell to Team USA 6-1. Team USA was led by NC State All American, Carlos Rodon.
The 2013 Coastal Plain League All Star Fan Fest will be on Sunday July 7th, with the All Star Game the following night, Monday July 8th. The location of the 2013 Coastal Plain League All Star Game will be announced soon.
The Marlins will have 30 home games on the schedule, with the regular season finale coming at home on Monday August 5th against the Wilmington Sharks. The CPL playoffs will be held from August 7th through the 17th.
All Marlins home games will have a 7:05 PM start time. The Marlins will be announcing promotional dates as they are finalized, with a full promotional schedule released in April.
The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 57 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
