Morehead City Marlins News Release
Morehead City, N.C. - The Morehead City Marlins have struggled to score runs all season. This was not the case on Thursday night when the Marlins hit their way to a 9-2 victory over the Fayetteville SwampDogs.
Despite eventually losing the ballgame, the SwampDogs did strike first in the ball game. Chase Rader drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second a balk, third on a ground ball and then scored on another groundball to third base.
The Marlins struck back in the top half of the first on a Ryan Cranmer RBI single, which plated Bo Way who hit a triple earlier in the ballgame. The Morehead City offense exploded for five runs in the fourth after three straight hit batters, a bases loaded walk by Andrew LaMura, and a big double to left-center by Bo Way. Sam Ott and Jacob Hoyle also had RBI's in the inning to give the Marlins a 6-1 lead after four innings.
Morehead City picked up three more runs on RBI doubles from Zach Arnold and Claudio Valencia. Bill Little then chipped in with a laser RBI single to complete the three-run fifth. Fayetteville score one run in the top half of the ninth on a Kevin Kean, pinch hit, RBI single making it 9-2. However, that is as close as the SwampDogs would come as the Marlins improved to 2-6 on the season with a 9-2 victory.
Calvin Rayburne picked upf the win for Morehead City, while Ethan Striz got the loss for the SwampDogs. The Marlins travel to Petersburg tomorrow to take on the Generals, before heading home on Saturday to face the U.S. Military All-Stars.
