Marlin-To-Be Tyler Campbell Delivers Walk-Off for Vanderbilt

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C.- Vanderbilt infielder Tyler Campbell, who has signed to play with the Morehead City Marlins, delivered a walk-off single on Saturday night to lift the Commodores over the Texas Longhorns and propel them into the College World Series Championship.
With the bases loaded and two men out in the tenth inning, Campbell topped a grounder just beyond the pitcher's mound towards short, and was able to beat the throw to first, driving home the run and giving Vanderbilt the 4-3 win.
Campbell, a 5-foot-11 sophomore from Portland, Ore. got the start on Saturday due to the ineligibility of third baseman Xavier Turner,
This season for Vanderbilt, Campbell has played in 16 games (three starts) and has driven in three runs in his 26 at bats. His RBI on Saturday night sent Vanderbilt to the College World Series Championship for the first time in the history of the tournament.
Vanderbilt will be facing the Virginia Cavaliers - who are also making their first appearance in the CWS final - on Monday beginning at 8 p.m. for the first game of three.
The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 18th season in 2014, the CPL features 14 teams playing North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,100 alumni drafted and 65 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
