Marines Fall to Surf in Repeat Match-up

In a repeat performance against the Pendleton Marines, this time at Camp Pendleton, the Surf overwhelmed the tought playing Marines by almost 30 points. The Surf, led by Coach Ray Johnson, pressed the Marines with outstanding defense including 14 steals. John Clark led all Surf scorers with 20 points, Aaron Hands 14, Tim Denson and Kono Kadima with 12 each. John Browner had 6-blocks. Anthony Bruner sparked the Surf off the bench with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals all in the 4th quarter alone. Ward was high scorer for Marines with 17 points.

The Marines with Coach Chris Crawford, who played the Surf in two pre-season games last season, noticed the faster, much improved play of this season's new Surf team.

Surf Stop Pendleton Marines in the Season's First Exhibition

October 16, 2010 The Surf opened exhibition play for the 2010-11 season with a 97-73 win over the Camp Pendleton Marines. The two teams faced off Saturday night (10/16) at the Surf's home court, HourGlass Arena (Miramar College). Forward, Aaron Hands, 6'7", led all scorers with 22 points, edging out teammate Kono Kadima, who scored 21 points. John Clark had a solid game on the boards for the Surf by pulling down 10 rebounds.

San Diego was in control for most of the game, leading by 24 points at halftime (48-24) and winning by the same margin. The scoring production was consistent throughout the game as the Surf scored 24 points in each of the first three quarters and 25 in the fourth quarter. The Surf will face the Pendleton Marines again Saturday, October 23 on the Marines' home court at Camp Pendleton in another exhibition matchup. This will close out the exhibition schedule for the Surf, who begin their regular season Thursday November 11 in San Francisco to play the Rumble. The road trip continues with a game Saturday November 13 against the South Valley Fever and another game Sunday November 14 in Sacramento to face the Heatwave. The Surf then return to HourGlass Arena for their home opener Saturday, November 20 at 7:00 PM against the Santa Barbara Breakers.
