Mariners to host Dallas/Fort Worth Tornadoes in second round of U.S. Open Cup

Virginia Beach, Virginia – The Mariners will take on the Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) Tornadoes on June 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex in the second round of the U.S. Open Cup. Dallas/Fort Worth plays in the Premier Development League of the United Soccer Leagues. The Mariners beat Atlanta on May 22, 2-1 in overtime to qualify for a wildcard spot in the tournament. The Tornadoes came through round one with a 3-1 victory over the United States Amatuer Soccer Association’s Legends FC on June 8.

The Mariners have spread the scoring around this season with Dante Washington, Hamisi Amani-Dove and Pato Aguilera each having two goals. Aguilera and Amani-Dove have five points each followed by Washington with four. Goalkeeper Matt Nelson ranks third in the A-League in saves with 40 in seven matches.

Dallas/FortWorth forward Lourenzo Andrade leads the Premier Development League in scoring with 14 goals and 30 points. Forward Mark Roland stands in third place in the League in points with 23 and fourth in assists with 5. Goalkeeper Ryszard Gorski sits at the sixth League spot in both shutouts and wins with three shutouts and six wins.

Dallas Fort Worth has two Mariner former players, Dwayne Bergeron and Mark Rowland. Both played for the Mariners in 2002.

Tickets for the match are $8 general admission and gates open at 6:30 p.m.
