Pulaski Mariners News Release

With their backs against the wall the Pulaski Mariners (30-25) completed a comeback of momentous proportions in the ninth inning to whittle into the division lead of the Danville Braves (33-23).

Taylor Byrd (0-1, 3.18 ERA) drew the starting assignment from manager Rob Mummau. Byrd pitched five-and-one-third innings of three-run ball on four hits. His outing set a season-high mark for longevity.

Rohn Pierce (5-1, 3.08 ERA) entered in relief of Byrd and stifled Danville's offense. Pierce threw two-and-two-thirds of shutout ball and limited the Braves to only two hits.

Pulaski entered the top of the ninth inning trailing three-to-nothing and risked falling four-and-a-half games out of first place, but four runs on five hits would soon put all fears to rest.

Taylor Zeutenhorst led off the frame with a single and scored on a pinch-hit, two-run homer by Georvic Perez.

The Mariners' third run came in part to the legs of Arby Fields. Fields pinch ran for Tom Verdi who drew a one-out walk. A left field single by Estarlyn Morales combined with a throwing error allowed Fields to score all the way from first base to tie the affair.

Pulaski completed the comeback when Morales scored on a ground-ball single by Jay Baum.

The Braves had no intentions of going down quietly against Peter Miller (2-1, 1.50 ERA). Danville managed a single and a walk to put runners on first and second before Miller ended the game by striking out Ozhaino Albies for his sixth save.
