Greeneville, TN - It took extra innings, but the Kingsport Mets (31-26) ultimately defeated the Greeneville Astros (27-28), 4-3, on Sunday night at Pioneer Park. The eventual game-winning run for the Mets was scored by Vincente Lupo on a Zach Mathieu ground out in the top of the twelfth.

Lupo, who went two-for-five on the night with a double, also scored the Mets' first run on a sacrifice fly by Mathieu in the fifth inning. The Mets' other two scores came on a Jose Garcia RBI single and a Luis Guillorme sacrifice bunt in the eighth.

Meanwhile, the Astros got their first score on a Kristian Trompiz RBI double in the seventh. Then, in the eighth, Antonio Nunez scored on a Sean McMullen ground out. Finally, in the bottom of the ninth, Jeffry Santos tied the score at 3-3 with a RBI single to send the game into extra innings.

With the score still even going into the twelfth inning, the Mets got back-to-back singles to put runners at first and third with no outs. Then, Mathieu hit a ground ball to the shortstop that allowed Lupo to score the eventual game winner.

The Astros did get a good start from right-hander Agapito Barrios, who held the Mets hitless through the first four innings. In the end, he struck out six batters over six innings while allowing one run on one hit.

The winning pitcher for the Mets was reliever Ramon Estevez. Over the final two innings, Estevez held the Astros without a hit and struck out three.

The Astros will head back to Kingsport on Monday and Tuesday to complete the split series. Game time is set for 7:00pm.
