Mariners Host Richmond Kickers In Last Minute Friendly Match

August 15, 2005 - USL First Division (USL-1) - Virginia Beach Mariners News Release

Not to be outdone by the unfortunate circumstance surrounding the game cancellation by the Jamaican National Premier Leagues' Tivoli Gardens Soccer Club, the Virginia Beach Mariners will host the talented Richmond Kickers on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.

The Mariners were informed Monday that "due to traveling and scheduling difficulties" the Tivoli Gardens Soccer Club would be unable to fulfill their commitment to play the Mariners on their United Nations sponsored US Tour.

"It is unfortunate that we will not have the opportunity to play this Jamaican team, said Mike McCann, Mariners Team Director. However, we look forward to another engagement with our archrivals, the highly ranked Richmond Kickers who will be making another appearance at the Sportsplex." I would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to Kickers President, Tom Depcrynski, as well as their management and coaching staff for making special arrangements to accommodate us for this game", McCann added.

The Virginia Beach Mariners have a 4-2-2 record in the last 8 of their season games vs. the Richmond Kickers' 1-2-5. The Kickers have won 3 of the 4 games played with the Mariners this season.

Tickets are $5.00 each for 11 and older. FREE admission 10 and under. FREE admission for local Youth Soccer Players, 18 and under wearing club jerseys. FREE admission for Season Ticket holders. ALL TICKETS FOR TIVOLI GARDENS GAME HONORED AT THE GATE!

In keeping with the original theme of the evening, the Mariners will host a "Jamaican Dancing Exhibition" for "children" of all ages. Performances by THE RHYTHM PROJECT, a group of talented young artists with an impressive steel drum, percussion repertoire and dance ensemble will entertain at half-time.

As always, SEAMORE, T-Shirt Shoot-Outs, Frisbee Toss, and the "Soccer Dog" will be featured.
