
Mariners cruise to win

Pulaski VA - It was a long night at Calfee Park for the Mariners as they returned home Friday night to take on the Bluefield Blue Jays for game one of their three game series. The Blue Jays scored early and often, taking advantage of six errors from the Mariners cruising to a 10-2 victory.
After a scoreless first, the Blue Jays knocked across three runs in the second and third innings to take a the early 3-0 lead. Daniel Arcila opened up the scoring in the second inning on a two run homerun. The two run shot scored Chris Hawkins to make the score 2-0. For the Blue Jays in the third inning, Art Charles had a big two out single that scored Peter Mooney to boost the Jays lead to 3-0.
The Mariners finally were able to put a tally on the scoreboard in the sixth inning, on a two out homerun by Daniel Paolini. The long home run was Paolini's fourth of the year to draw the score to 4-1.
The bottom fell out on the Mariners from the seventh inning on, with the Blue Jays scoring six runs in the final three innings. Most of them were unearned due to four errors from Pulaski.
The Mariners did score across one run in the bottom of the ninth via Hassiel Jimenez's first homerun of the season. The long ball that carried well over the wall in left field gave the Mariners their second run of the night, but it would prove futile as the Blue Jays got the last laugh winning 10-2.
AJay Meyer (3-2) received the win on the mound for the Blue Jays. He threw six full innings, allowed one run on five hits, and struck out seven. Mayckol Guaipe dropped to 3-6 on the year for the Mariners. He completed five innings of work, allowed three earned runs on five hits while striking out three.
For the Blue Jays Kevin Pillar went 4-5 with two RBI and a run scored, and Chris Hawkins went 2-4 with a walk, run scored, and an RBI.
Offensively for the Marines Daniel Paolini went 3-4 with a run and an RBI, and Efrain Nunez had a 2-4 night.
Tomorrow night will be White Out Night at Historic Calfee Park. Fans that wear a plain white t-shirt will get $1.00 off admission. There will be a contest to see who can wear the most white, and the fan that does will win an Ichiro Suzuki jersey and a 2011 Mariners posted signed by all the players. Let us see your white on Saturday night! The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
