Mariners Beat The Heat, Win Fourth Straight 5-3

July 8, 2012 - Appalachian League (ApL)
Pulaski Mariners News Release

Pulaski, VA- With a 102 degree reading on the Calfee Park scoreboard, Blake Holovach threw the first pitch of the game Sunday afternoon against the Kingsport Mets. Fortunately for the M's, the heat did not prove to be a negative factor as they defeated Kingsport 5-3, giving them their fourth straight victory.

Coming into today's matchup, Holovach had only given up one hit in five innings pitched. Today was bit of a different story, Holovach got through three innings giving up four hits, allowing two runs (0 ER), and striking out two Kingsport batters.

The Mets managed to put up the first runs of the ballgame when they scored two in the top of the third. Pulaski then answered Kingsport's production during the bottom of the inning thanks to Jabari Henry's 2 RBI double. The Mariners ultimately scored three more runs on the day, putting one across in the fifth and two in the sixth.

It was not until the top of the eighth when the Mets scored their next run of the ball game, which would prove not to be enough to make the comeback. Matthew Brazis faced the last five Kingsport batters striking out three and allowing no hits while getting his second save of the year.

Offensively for the M's, Dario Pizzano and Tyler Marlette both had multi-hit games on the day and Gilmer Lampe chalked up his fifth RBI of the season.

Pulaski will finish their three game home stand against the Mets tomorrow night, 7 p.m., at Calfee Park.

WP: Gonzalez (1-2) LP: Morris (0-4) S: Brazis (2)
