Greeneville Astros News Release
Greeneville, TN - After defeating the Bristol Sox 14-2 on Saturday night at Pioneer Park, the Greeneville Astros could not find a way to repeat their performance on Sunday in a 5-2 loss in game two of the series. Even with the defeat, the Astros are still second in the Appalachian League West Division race with an 11-8 record.
Bristol outfielder Kale Kiser had a good night at the plate and got the Sox rolling early with a RBI triple in the first inning to give Bristol a 1-0 lead until the third.
Jimmy Howick led off the third inning for the Astros with a walk, and Josh Magee singled to move Howick to second base. Both runners were later moved over on a sacrifice bunt by D'Andre Toney. Then, Howick scored a run for the Astros on a Jean Batista ground out to even the score at 1-1.
In the fifth inning, Jose Barraza led off with a triple for the Sox. Eric Grabe followed with a walk. Then, Steven Nikorak singled on a ground ball to score a run and give the Sox a 2-1 lead. However, before the inning was done, Kale Kiser struck again with a two-run double to put Bristol up 4-1.
With one out in the eighth inning, Kiser hit for a single. Then, after he advanced to third on a fielding error, he scored the final run for Bristol on an Alex Williams ground out.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Astros got a RBI single from Marc Wik, but fell short of coming any closer than 5-2.
Todd Kibby (1-2) earned the win for the Sox by pitching eight innings, giving up one run on four hits and striking out six. Mitch Mustain came in and pitched the final inning, giving up one run on two hits.
The Astros face the Bristol White Sox in the rubber match at Pioneer Park on Monday at 7:00pm. For more information on the Greeneville Astros, please visit www.greenevilleastros.com or call (423) 638-0411.
