Marinaro Reaches Another Milestone
December 17, 2002 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Cleveland Force News Release
Force forward Hector Marinaro kept adding to the long list of indoor soccer records he holds on Sunday night in Dallas. In his first game in two weeks, Marinaro became the first player in indoor soccer history to record 1,200 career goals with a fourth quarter tally at Dallas on Sunday night. Marinaro hit the milestone in just 652 games played. Indoor soccer's all-time leading scorer has averaged 1.84 goals per game during his career.
FORCE PLAYERS CONTINUE STREAKS:
Cleveland forward Hector Marinaro scoring streak was extended to 52 straight games and 84 of the last 85 games. He has also tallied a point in 191 of the last 194 games.
Force defender Kiley Couch also continued his consecutive game streak as he has now appeared in 57 straight MISL games. Couch, who appeared in all 44 games last season, did not play in his first game as a member of the Cleveland franchise as he missed the game on 12/15/02 at Dallas with a calf injury.
BLOCK PARTY:
Force defenders, line mates and roommates DJ Newsom and Kiley Couch had anchored the defense this season. The two roommates are one and two respectively on the team in blocks.
Newsom leads the team and his fourth in the MISL with 31 blocks after posting eight blocks in two games last weekend. Newsom recorded a MISL career and season-high six blocks including two key blocks in the last minute of the 14-13 victory over Milwaukee on 12/14/02.
Couch is second on the team with 24 blocks. Kiley lead the team in blocks last season with 86.
DOUBLE TROUBLE:
Force forwards Chris Stathopoulos and Lee Edgerton have found a connection. Since Edgerton returned from an injury on November 22, the scoring attack between the two players has increased as the two players have combined for 34 points.
In the six games since Edgerton returned to the lineup, Stathopoulos has scored 20 points as well as being named the MISL Offensive Player of the Week. Chris also has moved up to third on the team in scoring with 28 points.
Edgerton has scored 14 points in the six games and is now fifth on the team in scoring with 16 points after just playing eight games during the season.
WINTER CAMPS:
The Cleveland Force will be holding its second of two Winter Camps at Cleveland Metroplex located at 18909 South Miles Parkway in Warrensville Heights.
The second camp will be the Holiday Camp, which is a two-day camp on Thursday, December 26th and Friday, December 27th from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon each day.
The camp is open to kids ages five to 14 and the cost of the camp is 95 dollars. Each camper who attends the camp will receive a free ticket to a Force game.
