Bradenton Marauders News Release
BRADENTON, Fla. - The Marauders jumped out to a four-run lead in the first inning on Sunday afternoon and never looked back, defeating the Palm Beach Cardinals, 13-1, at LECOM Park to complete the six-game series sweep.
The sweep was the first of the season for the Marauders (15-9), who have now won a season-best six games in a row.
Eli Wilson led the Marauders with a career-high five RBI, including a two-run homer in the first inning, and Alexander Mojica and Jase Bowen each delivered two-run doubles.
On the mound, Adrian Florencio (1-1) delivered his second straight start of five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four while walking none. Nick Garcia pitched a career-high four innings in relief, striking out seven-also a career-high-while allowing just one unearned run to earn his first career save.
The first inning saw Wilson's two-run shot and Mojica's two-run double put Bradenton ahead 4-0 against Cardinals (6-18) starter John Beller (0-2), who failed to finish the first inning in his second straight start. Hudson Head hit a solo homer in the second inning, and in the fifth, Wilson delivered an RBI-double and scored on a triple by Norkis Marcos, who then scored on a wild pitch for an 8-0 Marauders lead after five innings.
The Cardinals scored their only run in the sixth against Garcia. Roblin Heredia singled to right-center and advanced to third on the play when Bowen made an errant back-pick throw to first base that bounced into the Marauders dugout. Masyn Winn then doubled Heredia home for what would become Palm Beach's only run of the afternoon.
The Marauders added three runs in the sixth inning on Bowen's two-run double and a Wilson fielder's choice RBI, then tallied two final runs in the seventh on bases-loaded walks by Wilson and Sammy Siani.
Six different relievers appeared for Palm Beach, with only two-Edwin Nunez and Luis Ortiz-allowing no runs to Bradenton.
Maikol Escotto went 1-for-4 with a sun-aided double and two walks for the Marauders, extending his on base streak to 18 games.
The Marauders will travel to Dunedin, Fla. on Tuesday to open a six-game series against the Dunedin Blue Jays. Both teams have yet to announce their starting pitchers.
