Maracle Moved to Active Roster
April 8, 2016 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release
The Rochester Knighthawks announced that they have moved forward Joe "Haodais" Maracle to the active roster.
"I just found out today when Curt (Styres) called me," said Maracle at the team's Wednesday night practice. "I am excited to be activated. It gives me an extra boost of confidence."
The second-year pro was recently acquired by Rochester from the Georgia Swarm at the Trade Deadline. Maracle notched three goals and one assist last season during his rookie campaign. The Six Nations Arrows product was a second-round selection (10th overall) of the then Minnesota Swarm in the 2014 NLL Entry Draft.
In 2015, Maracle helped Six Nations make team history by winning back-to-back Minto Cups. He completed his three-year career with the Arrows with 57 goals and 72 assists in 46 games. Knighthawks assistant coach Andy Secore coached Maracle for two seasons and likes what the 21-year-old brings to the roster.
"He is a smart lacrosse player and has a good understanding of the game," said Secore. "He sticks to what he is strong at. He is a good outside shooter and can play inside for us. He sets good picks too."
Before making the jump to the Junior "A" Arrows, Maracle won two championships with the Junior "B" Six Nations Rebels. With the Rebels, he achieved similar success, raising the Founders Cup in 2011 and 2012.
This past winter, he completed his first season with the Ohsweken Demons of the Canadian Lacrosse League (CLax). In nine games, he scored eight goals and chipped in 15 assists. In the NLL, he began the season with Georgia before arriving in Rochester on March 29th via a trade with the Swarm.
Being promoted to the 20-man active roster has Maracle on the cusp of playing in his first game of the season. On Saturday, the Knighthawks will battle their East Division rivals, the Buffalo Bandits, at the First Niagara Center.
"It would mean a lot because it's a big game," he said. "It would be great to play in front of family and friends because they are going to make the trip. I am just really excited."
