Brevard County Manatees News Release

Those fans that want to carpool down to the Brewers - Marlins game this Sunday at Dolphin Stadium should link up at Space Coast Stadium at 8:00 am at Gate #4. We will make a quick lunch break en route to the game. Parking at the stadium in Davie is $10. Because the fan head count is changing daily we will not purchase advance tickets; fans can purchase their tickets at the box office at the stadium on game day. Yesterday I had a head count of over 30 fans that wished to go, last night it was down by four or five.

Game time is set for 1:00 pm. If you have room in your car, there are a couple Manatees fans that wish to go but do not currently have rides. A couple fans asked if there would be Manatees players and/or coaches attending this game...tentatively, there are a few players and coaches that will definitely be making the trip on this off day on our schedule.

Tonight is a Sara Lee Bread Giveaway Night. Many of you asked what happens to the leftover bread that is not given out at the gates when fans exit the stadium. The shelf life of the bread is 12 days according to our Sara Lee rep. Normally we will give the bread out on consecutive nights until it is gone. Our staff just unloaded over 4,200 loaves of bread and buns. We will not say no if you wish to grab an extra loaf or two when you leave the ballpark after the game. If it was the last game of a homestand, what's left of the bread would be donated to area shelters and churches to feed the homeless.

Tomorrow night early arriving fans will receive a baggie containing a sample stone upon entering the ballpark. All of the stones (except for two) are cubic zirconium. The remaining two are real diamonds. Guys, if you're thinking of getting engaged and decide all that 'two months salary' talk is just hype created by those Madison Avenue marketing reps, then this is your night. C'mon, she's not a diamond expert and either are you!

The Manatees host the Vero Beach Dodgers tonight at 7:00 pm. The 'Tees are a perfect 6-0 at home against Vero Beach this season and look to close out the season-long home sweep tonight.

The playoff race is getting tight and although the Manatees are still mathematically alive, almost every game has now become a must win. St Lucie is in by virtue of winning the first half of the season. Battling St Lucie for the top spot right now is Daytona and Palm Beach. If St Lucie finishes this half in the top spot, the 2nd half playoff berth (or wild card berth) for the Eastern Division will go to the team with the best overall record. At this point that would be Palm Beach at 70-57 followed by Daytona at 67-60, three games back. The Manatees are 60-64, 8.5 games behind Palm Beach for the wild card berth. The Manatees also trail first place St Lucie by 8.5 games.

Baseball Winter Meetings will be held in Orlando this season, actually at the Swan and Dolphin at Disneyworld. A couple fans asked about their college age kids obtaining an internship or employment in Minor or Major League Baseball. The best route to go is to log onto www.pbeo.com and get your resume and experience posted for all teams to access. There is a annual fee for this servcie, however, when teams go searching for employees, PBEO.com is the first-and usually the last-stop in their search. Those that utilize this service have the opportunity to interview with all the teams at the annual Winter Meetings and when it's this close to home, you can't afford not to check it out for yourself. The Manatees will be taking on a larger load of interns next season; anybody interested in interning should send a resume to: Manatees Intern Program, 5800 Stadium Pkwy, Suite 101, Viera, FL 32940.
