Manatees announce field staff for 2004

Melbourne, FL – The Brevard County Manatees are proud to announce their field staff for the 2004 campaign.

Led by Montreal Expos great Tim Raines, the staff will be filled out by Craig Bjornson, Andy Skeels, and Steve Gober.

Raines will lead the team as the manager for the Manatees in 2004. A consistent All-Star for the Expos, Raines still leads the record books in many offensive categories for the team including stolen bases (635), runs scored (947), triples (82), and walks (793). Raines returns to the Expos after a stint in the Florida Marlins organization.

Andy Skeels will take over the hitting coach position in 2004. The 37 year-old Skeels joined the Expos staff in 2002 where he managed the Gulf Coast League Expos. Last season he was a coach with A-Savannah. An MVP and All-American at the University of Arkansas, Skeels holds the team's single-season record for slugging percentage and home runs and also led the Razorbacks to the College World Series in 1987.

For the pitchers, Craig Bjornson will guide them through the season as the pitching coach. He returns to the Expos this season after serving as the pitching coach for the Vermont Expos. In his previous run with the Expos he was the pitching coach at A-Vermont in 1999 and with the Gulf Coast Expos from 2000-2001 before leaving to join the Royal's system for a year. Bjornson played three seasons of professional baseball from 1991 to 1994 in the Houston Astros organization.

Gober returns to the Manatees in 2004 and will once again take on the role of Trainer. Gober has been with the Manatees for 3 years as trainer.
