Colorado Mammoth News Release
TORONTO - The Colorado Mammoth erased a five-goal deficit in the second half and fell behind twice more before sending the game to overtime and beating the Toronto Rock 13-12 on Saturday night at the Air Canada Centre.
Mammoth forward Dan Carey, the team's leading scorer, was held goalless for more than 58 minutes before tying the game at 12 with 1:49 remaining in regulation. His goal 4:44 into overtime gave the Mammoth its sixth consecutive victory, improved the team's National Lacrosse League-leading record to 10-1 and secured a West Division playoff berth. The Rock fell to 4-7.
Mammoth forward Brian Langtry scored a game-high five goals and captain Gavin Prout led the team with seven points on three goals and four assists. Ryan Benesch led the Rock with four goals and added three assists.
Goaltender Chris Levis got his second victory of the season in relief of Mammoth starter Gee Nash, who was pulled after Toronto took a 10-5 lead midway through the third quarter. Goals by Jamie Shewchuk and Langtry preceded Prout's natural hat trick that tied the game at 10 with 10:17 remaining.
The Rock took a 12-11 lead on a goal by Kevin Fines with 7:24 left to play and held the advantage until Carey's equalizer allowed the Mammoth to win its second overtime game of the season.
Former University of Denver standout Scott Davidson made his NLL debut, winning 19-of-29 faceoffs for the Mammoth in replace of Jamie Hanford, who was snowed in and unable to travel from New York.
