Colorado Mammoth News Release
DENVER - The Colorado Mammoth defeated the Minnesota Swarm 13-8 Saturday night at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, MN. The second consecutive win for Colorado pushes their season record to 3-2 and into second place in the West Division. The loss drops Minnesota to 2-3 on the year.
In a game that very much resembled last week's matchup against New York, the Mammoth would rush out to an early lead, battle evenly throughout the second and third quarters, and finally rally with a huge fourth quarter to put the game on ice late.
Mammoth captain Gavin Prout scored the opening goal just 41 seconds into the action. Two Swarm goals would follow over the next seven minutes, along with a tying Mammoth goal by Gary Rosyski, and the first quarter would end 2-2.
Colorado pushed the lead to 7-4 late in the second quarter behind Brian Langtry's second goal of the quarter and 10th of the season. But over the next 15-plus minutes, Minnesota scored four of the game's next five goals and tied the contest at 8-8 barely two minutes into the fourth quarter.
Then the Mammoth slammed the door for the second straight week. Again, behind strong goaltending by Andrew Leyshon, the visitors dominated the remainder of the game, outscoring the hosts 5-0 and cruised to the 13-8 win. Leyshon faced 49 Minnesota shots on the night, stoning the Swarm on 41 occasions - including 10 times in the fourth quarter.
Gavin Prout led the Mammoth with a hat-trick and three assists. Brian Langtry's two second quarter goals were accompanied by four assists while Gary Rosyski and Jamie Schewchuk added two goals and assists each. Nick Carlson and Matt Danowski chipped in with three assists a piece. Colorado hustled to 72 loose balls on the night while Minnesota tallied 61.
For the Swarm, Ryan Ward led the way with a five point night (two goals and three assists) while Dan Marohl followed with two goals and two assists. Craig Point and Kevin Buchanan each scored a goal with two assists.
The Mammoth will be at home next Saturday, February 14 in a special Valentine's Day matchup against the West Division leading Calgary Roughnecks at Pepsi Center. Tickets for that contest, and all Mammoth home games are on sale now at the Pepsi Center box office, all Ticketmaster retail centers, online at Ticketmaster.com and by phone at 303.830.TIXS or 719.520.9090.
