Colorado Mammoth News Release
DENVER - Colorado Mammoth forwards John Grant Jr., Adam Jones and Jamie Lincoln, and defenseman Dan Coates jumped into the icy Chatfield Reservoir in Littleton, Colo. on Saturday afternoon in the Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Colorado.
Grant was the first player to take the plunge, dressed in a Mammoth jersey, shorts and a tuque.
"My cannonball landed my bottom on the [floor of the reservoir]," said Grant.
Jones and Lincoln followed suit, earning loud cheers from the crowd for their leaps. Last into the frigid body of water was Coates, whose can-opener jump exuded athleticism and confidence.
"It was epic," Grant said.
The damage?
"We can't feel our toes," continued the league's leading scorer.
Saturday's event was one of three plunges in February to benefit the more than 11,000 Special Olympics athletes across the state of Colorado who participate in the organization's year-round training and competition programs - all at no cost to themselves or their families. More than 500 supporters formed teams for Saturday's festivities, and raised more than $105,000 for the cause. Donations are still being accepted.
Colorado (5-0) returns to the floor on Saturday, Feb. 18 in St. Paul, Minn., against the Swarm (2-2).
The Mammoth's next home game is Friday, Feb. 24 against the Calgary Roughnecks. Tickets are on sale now at the Pepsi Center box office, all Colorado Dick's Sporting Goods retail kiosks, online at TicketHorse.com, or by calling 303.53.HORSE.
