Mammoth Loses Rookie Clausen to Knee Injury

DENVER - The Colorado Mammoth announced today that rookie defenseman Ken Clausen will miss the entire 2011 season due to a knee injury. Clausen tore his anterior cruciate ligament as well as his medial meniscus in last Saturday's preseason loss to Toronto. Surgery is expected later this month for Clausen and he is expected to miss at least six months of action.

"It's a big loss for us," said Mammoth head coach Bob Hamley. "He was one of our high draft selections and we were really looking for Ken to be one of our difference-makers this season."

The 6'2", 201 lb. Clausen was a four-time All-American at the University of Virginia where he played in every game of his collegiate career. In 2010, Clausen was the winner of the William C. Schmeisser Award, an award given annually to the NCAA 's most outstanding defenseman in men's college lacrosse. He was the Mammoth's second selection and the first pick of the third round (22nd overall) in the 2010 NLL Entry Draft.

The Mammoth kicks off the 2011 regular season at Pepsi Center on Saturday, January 8th against the defending NLL champion Washington Stealth.
