Quad City Mallards News Release
QUACK TRACKS
Last Week
After a 5-2 loss to Missouri last Wednesday extended the Mallards' losing streak to three games, the Mallards rebounded with back-to-back wins over the Arizona Sundogs last weekend.
Deadlock
With last weekend's wins the Mallards moved into a fifth place tie with the Brampton Beast, on whom the Mallards have three games in hand. The Mallards are three points ahead of seventh place Tulsa, on whom the Mallards also have three games in hand. The Mallards are four points behind fourth place Allen and have two games in hand on the Americans.
Magic Number
The Mallards' magic number for clinching a playoff berth is nine. Any combination of standings points earned by the Mallards or available points the ninth place Wichita Thunder fail to collect totaling nine will result in the Mallards locking up a postseason spot for the second year in a row.
Dip
The three-game skid the Mallards halted with last Friday's win over the Sundogs matched Quad City's longest regulation losing streak of the season.
Home Sweet Home
The Mallards have gone 3-3-0 over the first six games of a seven game homestand- their longest of the season.
Busy
Last Saturday's game was the nineteenth in a stretch that sees the Mallards play 31 games over the final 59 days of the regular season.
Rough Road
The Mallards are also in the midst of a stretch that sees them play 18 of their final 30 games against the top four teams in the CHL- Missouri, Rapid City, Denver and Allen. Beginning Wednesday night the Mallards will play four straight games and eight of their next nine against members of that quartet.
Balance
While the Mallards are tied for fourth in goal scoring (3.3 per game) only one Mallard- Jeff Lee, who is fourteenth- ranks in the top 20 in the CHL in point scoring.
General Lee
Lee (20-32-52) is on a four game point scoring streak (2-7-9) and has piled up 24 points (seven goals and 17 assists) in his last 16 games. By scoring once and picking up two assists last Friday he became the first Mallard to reach 20 goals, 30 assists and 50 points.
Blanked
Last Saturday's 3-0 whitewashing of the Sundogs was Ty Rimmer's third shutout of the season and the Mallards' fifth. Rimmer is now tied for third in the league in shutouts. Rimmer has won his last four decision and gone 7-1-0 in his last ten games.
First
Jordan Mayer made his professional debut last Friday and scored his first career goal last Saturday.
Shorties
The Mallards scored first period shorthanded goals in back-to-back games last weekend. Thomas Frazee last Friday moved into a tie for second in the CHL with his third shorthanded goal of the season. One night later Mike Stiniziani scored his first shorthanded goal of the campaign. With nine shorthanded goals a team, the Mallards are now tied for second in the CHL.
