Madison Mallards News Release
Madison, WI - The Mallards earned their first shut-out victory of the season in a 2-0 win over the Battle Creek Battle Jacks on Friday night. With the win, the Ducks were able to split the series with the Battle Jacks before beginning a two-game home set with the Kokomo Jackrabbits.
The story of the game on Friday night: Dan Wright. Wright (W, 4-0, 8.0 IP, 5 H, 9 K) made his fifth start of the year and continued his dominance over the rest of the Great Lakes. With his decision tonight, Wright is tied with the Northwoods League lead with four wins in his record. The only innings with any difficulty were the 2nd and 3rd frames where Battle Creek had two hits in each inning. Wright was able to work around the traffic to throw up eight zeroes on the scoreboard before handing the ball over to Steven Lacey (S, 3). Lacey sat down Battle Creek in order to secure the Mallards 12th win of the year. Wright lowered his ERA from 0.75 to 0.56 after the near-spotless outing.
Madison gets multi-hit games from two batters tonight in Josh Caron (3-4, 2 R) and Christian Rivera (2-3). Caron scored the only two runs in the game on RBIs from the two Smith's. Payton and Noah helped the Ducks to the 2-0 victory. With the 2-0 edge, the Mallards secured their first Friday Night Fireworks win of the season after starting the year 0-3.The Mallards were able to work around a strong start from Justin Graves (L, 0-1) who was followed by just two other arms for Battle Creek. The Mallards and Battle Jacks only use five combined arms and the Ducks score first in a contest for just the second time in the past nine games to inch their record closer to .500.
The Mallards have two games remaining on their four-game home stand after splitting with Battle Creek. Madison welcomed the Kokomo Jackrabbits to the Pond after sweeping Kokomo in Indiana earlier this year. Coverage can be found on the Northwoods League website under the 'Live Action' tab at 6:35 PM.
