Mallards Start Season Tomorrow with Fan Fest, Battle with Rapid City

October 21, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. (October 21, 2011) - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League will open their second CHL season tomorrow with an outdoor Fan Fest at 4:30 p.m. followed by the Mallards' 7:05 p.m. match-up with the Rapid City Rush at the i wireless Center.

Fan Fest will be headlined by KISS tribute band Strutter and will also feature kids' games and activities, food, beer and soft drinks, and more. Admission to Fan Fest- which will be held in the i wireless Center parking lot- is free with the purchase of a game ticket.

Mallards coach and general manager David Bell will be on hand before the game to welcome fans to Fan Fest before leading the Flock into regular season action for the first time later that evening. Mo Mallard, the team's ever-popular mascot, will be ready to rock out and mingle with fans during Fan Fest.

In addition, all fans attending the opener will receive free Mallards quick stick 2011-12 schedules.

Strutter's KISS tribute show has proven authentic enough to stand the test of time since Strutter's formation in 1988. Find out more about Strutter at http://www.armentertainment.com/strutter.html.

Saturday night's opener will also mark the unveiling of three new areas from which fans will be able to enjoy Mallards action at the i wireless Center: the Drake Club, Mo's Madhouse and the Nest. The Drake Club is a V.I.P. area featuring a private bar, flat screen televisions and an exclusive ambiance. Drake Club access is available only to season ticket holders.

Mo's Madhouse will be home to the most passionate of Mallards fans. Located behind the west goal, this area is reserved for those who are the most dedicated and demonstrative in their support for the Flock and their distaste for the opposition. Mo's Madhouse tickets are available at a reduced rate to those in possession of a student I.D.

The Nest is located on the i wireless Center's south patio and is reserved for groups of 30-50, making it the perfect venue for business outings, family parties and any other kind of group event. More information on the Nest- as well as the Drake Club and Mo's Madhouse- can be had by calling the Mallards at 309-277-1364.

Tomorrow night will also see the Mallards debut a new look on the ice as the Flock sports new uniforms this year after revamping its logo and colors in the offseason.

For all that will be new for the Mallards at the i wireless Center this season, one constant will be found on the ice, where defenseman Darren McMillan will return as the Mallards' captain. McMillan is about to embark on his first full season as the Mallards' captain after first taking on the "C" midway through last year.

McMillan, 31, last season scored four goals and totaled 21 points for the Mallards while turning in a plus/minus rating of +4. The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, native represented the Mallards in January's CHL All-Star Game. McMillan was one of just three Mallards who played in each of the club's 66 regular season games last year. In 346 career games, the 6' 0", 209-pound McMillan has scored 23 times and collected 134 points over six professional seasons.

Opening night is the first of the Mallards' 33 home games and 25 weekend dates. 2011-12 season tickets are still on sale- season ticket holders receive significant savings and a host of exclusive benefits. Single game tickets for all of the Mallards' regular season contests- including the opener- are also now available. Fans can contact the Mallards at (309) 277-1364 or tickets@myqcmallards.com for more information about both season and single game tickets.

Single game tickets are also available at the i wireless Center box office, at Ticketmaster outlets, through www.ticketmaster.com or through Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free. The box office is open weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and on game days from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the second period. Individual game tickets are available for $12 in the upper level and $17 in the lower level.
