Mallards Sign Smegal and Olynyk

Moline, IL-The Quad City Mallards today announced that the team has added a pair of skaters to their 2006-07 line-up as forward Ray Smegal and forward/defenseman Ryan Olynyk have been signed.
Smegal is a 6-foot-4, 210 pound forward who led the University of Toronto in scoring during the 2005-06 season. In his only season of Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) hockey, the Spruce Grove, Alberta native recorded 30 points (14 goals and 16 assists) in 23 games. His point output was good for 18th best in the CIS.
Olynyk will be joining the Mallards for his second professional season. He played with the Central Hockey League's Wichita Thunder in 2003-04 before spending two years at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (N.A.I.T.). Olynyk recorded six points (a goal and five assists) with 248 penalty minutes during his 66 games with Wichita. Over the last two seasons, he netted 14 points (six goals and eight assists) in 43 games at N.A.I.T.
The Mallards anticipate the addition of a veteran goal scorer to their line-up tomorrow afternoon. In order to make room for Smegal, Olynyk and tomorrow's addition, the Mallards waived forwards Justin Siebold and Nigel Hawryliw and defenseman Henrik Arnstrom.
The Mallards are back on the ice on Friday night for a showdown with the Rockford IceHogs. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at The Metrocentre. The Hayman's Ace Hardware Pre-Game Show is on Fox Sports Radio AM 1230 beginning at 7:05 p.m. The game is also available for purchase via the b2 Network at qcmallards.com. On Saturday night, the Mallards are in Fort Wayne to meet the Komets for the first time in 2006-07. Game time is 6:30 p.m. central time and the Hayman's Ace Hardware Pre-Game Show will air at 6:05 p.m. The b2 broadcast will be available via qcmallards.com on a tape-delay basis beginning at 7:30 p.m. central time.
Opening Weekend at The MARK presented by Genesis is set for Friday, November 3rd vs. Fort Wayne and Saturday, November 4th vs. Rockford. Game time is 7:00 p.m. on both nights and both contests will be preceded by a laser show and pyrotechnics display. A special ticket package is available for both games courtesy of Genesis.
