Mallards Roll to Second Straight Road Win

December 12, 2002 - United Hockey League (UHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, IL – Center Jason Goulet scored two goals and added two assists as the Quad City Mallards defeated the Kalamazoo Wings, 5-1, in United Hockey League action Thursday night at The MARK of the Quad Cities.

Goulet ("goo-LAY") received plenty of help from his linemates. Bret Meyers earned three assists, while rookie Mike Possin ("po-SEEN") scored two goals, giving him ten points in the last nine games. Defenseman Tom Menicci added two assists. Center Jeff Williams scored his second goal as a Mallard.

Goaltender Joe Dimaline returned to the lineup for the first time since Oct. 30 and made 25 saves for the win. With 152 regular season victories, he is now eight short of the all-time UHL record of 160, held by J.F. Rivard.

The Mallards (11-10-4) climbed over .500 for the first time since Nov. 9. They took control with two late first period goals, by Possin and Goulet. With Quad City leading 3-1 to start the third, Goulet took advantage of a misplay by Kalamazoo (7-12-6) goaltender Chad Alban (30 saves) behind the Wings' net, making the steal and scoring shorthanded.

The Mallards are now 3-0-1 in their last four games, and 5-2-2 over the last nine.

Quad City has won two straight home games for the first time this season. The Mallards won't get a chance to extend the streak to three until Dec. 26, as they have five straight road games ahead. Tomorrow's game at Rockford gets underway at 7:05 p.m., followed by a Saturday contest at Muskegon at 6:35 p.m. (Central time). Both games can be heard live on WOC TalkRadio 1420 and www.qcmallards.com beginning 30 minutes before game time.
